When I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and had corrective surgery placing 2 metal rods in my back. I didn’t realize how much this would affect my life’s path. Over the next few years I had to learn how to strengthen my back and my core to keep maximum mobility and flexibility. This journey of self discipline and self education led me to take a deeper look at the core of what I needed to really feel good in my body. What I found to be true for me, fueled my passion to learn more about my misconceived understanding of being fit and what “overall health” really means. In 2010, when I set my mind to losing weight and getting fit, I dropped from a size 9 to a size 2 in 30 days, only reflecting 5 lbs of weight loss on the scale (yes toss the scale, it's not a true measurement of success.) But the best part was the changes I noticed in my stress levels, energy, sleep, and overall joy about life! I kept this lifestyle for several years, but always had a deep yearning to learn more. In 2014, I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I received my training and certification to be a health coach. I learned how to keep the weight off... the healthy way! This was no fad diet. No yo-yo results, on and off the wagon at every new year's resolution. No, this was a lifestyle change. In 2015, I decided to get my personal training certification and make a career change to helping others with their own health journey. Fast forward 10 years later, I now have 2 boys and my view on what it means to “feel good and strong” in my body keeps changing, as life does! I’m always learning new ways to listen to my body and adjust my routine. I would say one of my biggest goals in working with a new client is to teach them how to tune into their body and really listen and act based on their body’s feedback. That sets the foundation for any good exercise or lifestyle change.
